In his senior season, he was named to First Team All-State and averaged 32.9 points, 7.4 rebounds, 3.6 assists, and 3.3 steals per game.

However, he committed to play for the University of Wisconsin. In his college career, he averaged 14 points, 4.5 rebounds, and 2.5 assists per game and became the only player to start in all 37 games for the Kentucky Wildcats.

Tyler was named an All-Freshman First-Team selection by Basketball Times as well as the Southeastern Conference Rookie of the Year by the Associated Press. He then decided to forgo his final three years of college and declared for the 2019 NBA draft.
