She was born Terri Raines in Eugene, Oregon, in the United States on the 20th of July 1964. Her parents- Judy and Clarence Raines – are environmentalists and raised Terri and her two sisters to appreciate nature. Her family also ran a long-haul trucking business.

While she was growing up, her father regularly brought home animals that were injured on the highway where he drove his truck. This was how Terri fell in love with saving and rehabilitating injured animals. In 1986, she founded Cougar Country – a rehabilitation facility to re-educate and release predatory mammals back into the wild.

Career Progress

In order to enhance her knowledge about animal care, Terri Irwin became a veterinary technician at an emergency veterinary hospital in 1989. She seems to have a lot going on at the same time with taking care of her personal pets which includes several birds, 15 cats, and a dog,  running her rehabilitation facility (Cougar Country), helping her father run the family business and working/learning at a veterinary hospital. Terri Irwin went on a tour of Australia in 1991 and visited several rehabilitation facilities where she met Steve Irwin. They had a whirlwind romance before getting engaged four months later and got married eight months later – on the 4th of June 1992. Steve described their relationship as love at first sight. They had a lot in common and it appeared they were made for each other.

They filmed their first documentary on their honeymoon which aired as the first episode for Crocodile Hunter. The couple worked together releasing feature films; Collision Course: Crocodile Hunter and Wiggly Safari alongside their many other television series.

Terri and Steve had two amazing children (Bindi and Robert) who also share their parents’ passion for animals and nature. Bindi Irwin recently got engaged to her long-time boyfriend, Chandler Powell.

In 2006, September 4th precisely, tragedy struck while Terri and the kids were trekking in Cradle Mountain, Tasmania.
