Troy Brandon Murphy was born on 2 May 1980, in Morristown, New Jersey USA, and is a retired professional basketball player, best known for playing in the National Basketball Association (NBA) for teams such as the Dallas Mavericks; he also played for the University of Notre Dame during his college career. After matriculating, he attended the University of Notre Dame, leading the Irish in scoring and rebounding during his time there. He shared the Big East Conference Player of the Year honors with Troy Bell, and was also given a John R. Wooden Award All-America Team in two consecutive years. He is the only Notre Dame player in history to score more than 2,000 career points with over 900 rebounds.
Murphy joined the 2001 NBA Draft and was selected as the 14th overall pick by the Golden State Warriors. He started slowly, but then improved towards the end of the season. He averaged a double-double during his sophomore year and tried to improve his outside shooting. After a series of injuries, he was limited to 28 games during the 2003 season, but then played with the Warriors until 2006, and started to post better numbers. In 2007, he was traded to the Indiana Pacers and continued to improve his three point shooting. He stayed with the Pacers until 2010, when he was traded to the New Jersey Nets, but after less than a year with the Nets, he was traded back to the Warriors.
