Husband and Son

Susan Downey is married to award-winning actor, Robert Downey Jr. She first met her future husband on the set of the 2003 thriller, Gothika. She was one of the producers while he was one of the stars in the movies. Downey Jr. was immediately taken with her but she wasn’t so impressed with him. She thought him strange and was not keen to date an actor. He, however, persisted in his efforts and she eventually warmed up to his affections. They commenced a romantic relationship and enjoyed a blissful time together. The couple’s new found love was however threatened by the actor’s continued abuse of various substances. She, therefore, gave him an ultimatum to either quit or lose her.

Downey Jr. took the first option and literarily threw his drugs into the ocean. He thereafter made great efforts to stay away from drugs and the couple has been happy together ever since. Downey and her beau got engaged on the 5th of November 2003 and tied the knot two years later, on the 27th of August 2005. The wedding ceremony was a glamorous affair and took place at the Hamptons in New York.

The couple now has two kids together; son, Exton Elias (b. February 2012) and daughter, Avri Roel (b. November 2014). It must be noted that this is the first marriage for Downey. Her husband, on the other hand, was previously married to actress/singer – Deborah Falconer. The union lasted for 12 years and produced a son named Indio Falconer Downey.
