The actor was born on April 4, 1979, in Perth Australia to Sally Ledger and Kim Ledger. At the time, his mother was a French teacher while his father doubled as a racecar driver and a mining specialist. The marriage was also graced with another child, Kate, who was apparently as thick as thieves with her brother. Additionally, they had two other sisters; Ashleigh Bell and Olivia Ledger who were born into his parent’s second marriages.

Before all the acting and showbiz, Heath Ledger was extremely interested in chess. When he was just 10 years old he emerged the winner in the Western Australia Junior Chess Championship. Despite his talent, his interest in the stage arts peaked around the same time and it won. He even played the lead role in his school’s production of Peter Pan. While he was on the pathway to his career, his parent’s marriage broke down and ended. That pushed him further into his craft, he continued taking on roles in grammar school till he got some small roles in the Australian entertainment industry.

Soon after, he got enough recognition to take him all the way to American screens. In 1999, he got his first role in the hit movie 10 Things I Hate About You. While filming the movie Brokeback Mountain, Heath Ledger met Michelle Williams, his girlfriend, and mother of his daughter. He was not actually married to Michelle, nevertheless, the relationship waxed strong. Their relationship got heated really quick and on October 28, 2005, they had a baby to show for it. Matilda Rose was born in New York City and her Godparents were to be Jake Gyllenhaal and Busy Phillips. Even though the two moved in together and lived as a family, by 2007 it came to light that they had ended their relationship.

In addition to his relationship with Michelle, his other high profile relationship was with Mary-Kate Olsen shortly before his demise.

Some of his other high profile movies are The Patriot which brought in the total of $113.3 million and Broke Back Mountain which grossed about $56 million.

At the time of his death, the actor was worth about $16 million. His death itself shook Hollywood and the rest of the world to the bone. On January 22, 2008, the star was found by his housekeeper in his bed unconscious. Teresa Solomon, the housekeeper was in the company of Diana Wolozin his masseuse. The two came into his apartment in SoHo, Manhattan to find him lifeless.

The police report stated that his masseuse called Mary-kate Olsen for help since the two were allegedly dating at the time. Apparently, he overdosed on prescription pills and could not be revived. Based on that, his death was ruled as an accident.
