Why banditry, kidnapping persists northern Nigeria – Public Commentator

A renowned public commentator, Alhaji Ahmed Bakare has lamented that banditry and kidnapping in the north need nothing but divine intervention, alleging that politicians are responsible for all the problems in the north because of their selfish interests.

Bakare gave his opinion during an interview with our correspondent in Gusau, the state capital.

He said the government at all levels are weak towards eliminating banditry and kidnappings in the north.

According to him, no individual or groups of individuals can overpower the government unless the government does not want to act.

” I am very much aware that these Boko Haram insurgents and other notorious criminal organizations can never exist without the support of the political leaders in the north” he lamented.

“I also know that nobody is safe in the whole northern region unless the people behind the notorious acts are caught.

According to him, the situation has become very terrible that the northerners can not move very freely in the society that belongs to everyone.

He said that politicians in the north do not consider qualified people for positions but depend on supporters who do not know any better about politics to decide.

“That is the main reason why politics has become a booming business especially in the northern part of Nigeria because we are blind politically ”

Bakare maintained that he has no respect for any politician, pointing out that they use and dump people at will.
