More than two months after he was abducted by gunmen, the Plateau State Police Command, on Sunday, said the search for the father of a former governor of the state, Pa Defwan Dariye, was still ongoing.
Defwan, who is said to be over 90 years old, was abducted in June from his residence in the Bokkos Local Government Area of the state by gunmen, who whisked him away to an unknown destination.
About two weeks after his kidnap, the gunmen contacted his family and demanded N100m ransom before they could release him, but the demand was not met.
Since then, nothing has been heard from the abductors on the whereabouts of the former governor’s father.
However, the spokesman for the command, Ubah Ogaba, told our correspondent in Jos on Sunday that the police had not given up on rescuing Defwan
He stated that complex security challenges like kidnapping required discreet investigation to unravel ways that would yield the desired results.
“We are still investigating the matter. We will not spare any efforts until we find him, no matter how long it takes, while those found to be involved in his abduction will not go unpunished,” Ogaba added.
