Aston Villa have moved one step closer to relegation after a 1-1 draw with Everton.

Dean Smith’s side are now three points behind Watford and West Ham United – who are both currently free of the drop zone and will play each on Friday – with two games remaining.

They nearly pulled off an amazing victory after defender Ezri Konsa got on the end of Conor Hourihane’s free-kick with sixteen minutes left.

Anwar El-Ghazi had a terrific opportunity to make it 2-0 and the Egyptian was left to rue his miss when Theo Walcott equalised with a header after 87 minutes.

Villa have Arsenal and West Ham left to play and manager Dean Smith admits they likely have to win both games to survive the drop.

“It looks that way,” said Smith.”I know we are not out of it because I can see the fight in the players.

“We’ve gone all out to win this game and done enough to win it but unfortunately a lapse of concentration and not making it 2-0 has cost us.”
