Real Madrid assistant coach David Bettoni admits this season was the toughest he and Zinedine Zidane have had in charge.

Real were crowned LaLiga champions last week, marking Zizou’s first Liga title as coach.

Long time No2 Bettoni told L’Equipe: “In fact, our return to Real (in March 2019) was more difficult than we thought and this 2019-2020 season has been very complicated.

“There was always this post-Ronaldo (Cristiano) to manage and the players were very attacked in the media. They were said to be old, etc. And after, it is the coach who took it on his shoulders.

“We had very positive matches at key moments, then disappointments, and then the pandemic. In fact, this season which lasted a year was filled with emotions, satisfactions and bad shots too and, Thursday, everything came out.”
