Manchester United veteran Nemanja Matic is full of praise for new teammate Donny van de Beek.
The Holland international has made an instant impact at Old Trafford, scoring on his debut against Crystal Palace last week and impressing in the Carabao Cup win at Luton Town on Tuesday night.
“It’s always good when you have competition in the team, without it you cannot win anything,” Matic said. “You need to have competition, when you know you have other great players in your position you know you have to work harder on the pitch and give your best every day.
“Healthy competition is always good to see and I’m happy in the midfield that we have great players.”
Van de Beek has settled well into life at Carrington, according to Matic, and he’s looking forward to seeing more of him on the pitch.
“He’s a happy man I think! He’s happy to be with us and we’re happy to have him,” Matic told the United website. “It’s just a few weeks he’s been with us and I’m sure he’ll be a very important player for the future because he has a lot of talent. He’s a very young player and I’m happy that we signed a great player.
“He has some experience from Ajax in the Champions League also so he already has big games in his legs. I’m sure he will improve with us and bring his football level up and I’m happy for him and the team.”
