Manchester United are reportedly set to snub club legend Edwin van der Sar in favour of their ‘preferred director of football’ Marcel Brands.
Brands currently holds the role at Everton and has earned praise for his work over the summer for the Toffees.
Highly-rated stars James Rodriguez and Allan were brought in from abroad to significantly improve Carlo Ancelotti’s squad.
And Abdoulaye Doucoure and Ben Godfrey were also signed, from Championship sides Watford and Norwich respectively.
Roma are said to be interested in acquiring Brands’ services, with the 58-year-old one of the most in-demand DoFs around.
But The Sun claim United have joined the race for the Dutchman, whose current deal with Everton expires at the end of the season.
Van der Sar has been linked with the executive role at Old Trafford, having restored Ajax’s reputation as one of Europe’s leading clubs.
But the report claims the former United keeper is not their top priority for now.
