Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer explained Donny Van de Beek’s wide role for their Carabao Cup win at Everton.

Solskjaer explained that Van de Beek is clever enough to play in multiple positions for United, after fielding him on the left wing against Everton.

Although Van de Beek faded after the break, Solskjaer lauded the 23-year-old’s qualities and compared him to Bruno Fernandes after the Everton win.

Solskjaer said: “He is one of those clever players who can move into space, find space – same as Bruno, to be fair – and we want the two of them to move between the lines, get on the ball, link the play for us and find space.

“I thought he did well.”
