Former Barcelona president Joan Gaspart insists coach Quique Setien shouldn’t be blamed for their Champions League collapse against Bayern Munich.

Josep Maria Bartomeu and his board have come under fire for their management of the club over recent years.

“It’s more of a humiliation than a simple defeat,” Gaspart told Radio MARCA.

“We’ll have elections in the coming months.

“Bartomeu can’t run [for president] because he’s already served two terms.

“We’re in August and the economic situation is what it is.

“It’s a difficult moment, but you have to make decisions.

“I appreciate Josep Maria but it’s a very difficult time.

“The coach arrives and finds himself with the resources that are there.

“The fans wanted [Ernesto] Valverde to leave, but Setien isn’t to blame now.”
