The future of Ansu Fati at Barcelona remains in doubt.
The subject of multiple offers from Manchester United this year, Barca chose not to sell the teen.
However, El Confidencial says the board could be forced to cash in due to mounting debts. The club’s shortfall was 50 per cent greater than the previous season.
As such, even with their raft of summer sales, the board face two options to lighten the load: either to sell a major star or demand pay-cuts from their players.
Should the former option be favoured, it’s likely Fati will be nominated as the player to be sacrificed.
United’s last offer was a bonus-laden bid rising to €150m – which is the figure Barca would be seeking for the teen should they transfer-list him over the New Year.
