Mikel Arteta is positive Arsenal are moving in the right direction despite Sunday’s 2-1 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur.

A costly defensive error and a number of missed chances left Arsenal asking what could have been as they allowed Toby Alderweireld to score a winning header late on in the match.

Asked if he was confident that Arsenal are on track despite the loss, Arteta said: “Yes. If we minimise the mistakes that we do and keep playing like that, we’re going to win many football games because we’re going to make it difficult for the opponent, I’m sure of that.

“But these two aspects, one has to be maintained and one has to be avoided. It’s on us, they believe in what we’re doing and you can see how they are trying.

“It’s a shame because if you are able to win that way in such a big ground, such a big space like today it gives you big belief and I’m gutted for them because they really tried.”
