Kwara State Governor, Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, says he has received the backing of the sports minister, Sunday Dare, to revive the Kwara Football Academy to a major national talents hub.

Abdulrazaq visited the minister in Abuja on Thursday.

KFA, an initiative of former Kwara Governor, Bukola Saraki, was opened by ex-President of the Confederation of African Football, Issa Hayatou, in 2005.

The academy was established as a centre for youth development, using football as the medium of empowerment.

However, the Academy has failed to produce exciting talents in over a decade after initial promise and Abdulrazaq in a statement made available to Saturday PUNCH, said the state had recieved the backing of Dare to revive the academy.

“The governor has secured the assurance of the ministry to support the Kwara Football Academy to become a major national football talent hub,” a statement signed by the governor’s Chief Press Secretary Rafiu Ajakaye on Friday said.
