Rivers takes over case of slain mechanic

The Rivers state government   on Thursday took over the trial of four dismissed police officers attached to the Eagle Crack Squad at the Mile Police Division in Port Harcourt, accused of allegedly torturing to death, Chima Ikwunado, an auto mechanic.

The three accused dismissed male cops and one female officer, Ayogu Fidelis, Eke Chibuzor, Egbunefu Felix and Rose Georgewill, who appeared  before Justice Florence Fiberesima pleaded not guilty to five counts of murder, torture, conspiracy and unlawful infliction of injuries, preferred on them.

The matter, which was billed for hearing, was stalled after the defense counsel insisted that the prosecution must provide all documents needed in the matter.

Responding to the prayer of the defence counsel, David Abuo, for the 1st and 4th defendants and Allen Nwakanma for the 3rd defendant, Justice Fiberesima, ordered the prosecution counsel, Chidi Ekeh to make avail all the necessary materials ready before the next adjourned date.

Fiberesima also ordered that the suspects be remanded at the Special Anti-Robbery Squad cell in Port Harcourt and  adjourned the matter till October  20, 2020 for continuation of trial.
