Tinubu, Sanwo-Olu hail Hamzat at 56

NATIONAL leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has commended the deputy governor of Lagos State, Dr. Obafemi Kadir Hamzat for his strong support and good partnership with Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu as the deputy governor marked his 56th birthday anniversary.

In a statement he issued in Lagos yesterday, Tinubu described Hamzat as an accomplished academic, renowned technocrat, administrator and progressive politician, who has brought his vast knowledge, immense technical abilities and tremendous experience to bear on the various positions he has held at state and federal levels.

The APC national leader also hailed Hamzat’s contributions in the areas of information technology and infrastructural conception, design and development, describing them as remarkable.

Tinubu added: “From a background of illustrious career in the private sector, Dr. Hamzat joined the public service upon his appointment in August 2005 as Commissioner for Science and Technology during my second term as the governor of Lagos.

“Since then, he has not been found wanting in his contributions and commitment to making Lagos a better place. He has served the state with dedication in several capacities and continues in the tradition of diligence and excellence in the service of our people.

“A prodigious man and team player, as deputy governor of Lagos and second-in-command to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu from May 2019 till date, Dr. Hamzat has exhibited good character.

“He has provided strong support and partnership to ensure that our APC government achieves the aspiration of a greater and better Lagos.

“As a leader in a great team, Deputy Governor Hamzat has demonstrated that a deputy can work harmoniously with the governor, and yet carve a niche for himself.

“This excellent team building and partnership are worthy of emulation by governors and their deputies across the country, particularly in states where such relationship has been characterised by constant distrust and acrimony.

“On this occasion of his 56th birthday, I pray that Almighty Allah grant him many more years, good health and continued robust physical and mental energies to continue in the service of our people.”

On his own part, the governor of Lagos State, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu described Hamzat as a reliable, trustworthy and committed brother, friend and partner in the ‘Greater Lagos’ agenda of the incumbent administration.

Sanwo-Olu, in a statement signed on his behalf by his Chief Press Secretary (CPS), Mr. Gboyega Akosile, commended Hamzat’s contribution to the growth and development of Lagos State in the last 17 years.

The Governor described his deputy as a seasoned technocrat, administrator, politician and committed democrat who has all along used his position as commissioner in different ministries and now the number two citizen of the Centre of Excellence to bring about positive change in the state and the country at large.

He said: “Happy 56th birthday to my reliable, hardworking, dependable, supportive and committed brother, friend and partner in the Greater Lagos agenda of our administration.

“You made great achievements as Commissioner for Science and Technology between 2005 and 2011 as well as Commissioner of Works and Infrastructure.

“During your tenure as Commissioner for Science and Technology, you enforced the application of modern technology in the state’s ministries, thus changing the face of data and record keeping in Lagos and at the same time eliminated the trend of state ghost workers.

“In execution of your mandate as Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, your ministry completed several key projects for Lagos State in the mega-city era. Your achievements in the ministry were well recognised as you emerged winner of the fifth edition of the Lagos State Man of the Year Awards in September 2013.

“We cherish your contributions to party politics and governance in our dear state. You are a worthy ambassador and champion in the blend of technocracy and politics. As a true democrat and progressive politician, you have remained steadfast in the progressive camp.

“As you celebrate your 56th birthday, I pray that God will increase you in good health to enable you render more service to humanity, Lagos State and Nigeria.”
