The Poultry Association of Nigeria says many people are not aware of the nutritional benefits of an egg.
According to a statement, this was why poultry farmers under the auspices of PAN, Epe Zone, Lagos recently took an egg awareness campaign to schools and hospitals.
The spokesperson for PAN, Epe Zone, Lagos, Bukola Bankole, said during the campaign, they also donated 2,150 units of egg to the Government College, Ketu-Epe, and 900 units of egg to the General Hospital, Epe.
Bankole said the egg awareness and donation were carried out on the World Egg Day, which was held on October 9. She said public institutions such as schools and hospitals were veritable places where such an enlightenment campaign could be effectively prosecuted.
She said, “We noticed over time that a lot of people are not really benefitting from what egg represents in a meal. We went out to let people know the benefits of eggs in their meal.
“We decided to choose the children because we believe children have a lot of influence on their parents, especially when it comes to foodstuffs.
“If children are aware of the benefits of eggs, they will influence their parents’ decisions in making eggs available in the home.”
The statement added that officials of the Government College, Ketu-Epe and the General Hospital, Epe appreciated the donation of eggs by PAN.
