Unknown gunmen stormed Odu community in the Udege development area in the Nasarawa Local Government Area of Nasarawa State and killed a traditional ruler, Mr. Amos Ewa Obere.
An investigation by The PUNCH, revealed that the unfortunate incident occurred on Friday around 10 pm.
It was gathered that the yet yo be identified gunmen, who came in their large numbers with sophisticated weapons, stormed Odu community and shooting indiscriminately into the air and made the entire inhabitants of the area to scamper to safety.
Our correspondent learnt that the monarch sustained a gunshot wound in his stomach.
It was gathered that the monarch was immediately rushed to Mararaba Udege General Hospital, for medical attention, but he couldn’t survive it as he died in the process.
Our correspondent further learnt that the diseased before his untimely death was a retired Assistant Superintendent of Police and also the ward head of his community and other surrounding villages.
An eyewitness said, “When they stormed the community, they went straight to the palace and dragged the traditional ruler out and told him that your days on earth are finished, then they fired bullets on him. Before people could rush down to know what was happening, they had run away.”
Also confirming the incident to our correspondent, the pioneer chairman of Nigeria Union of Journalists in Nasarawa State, Mr. Joel Ogapa, who held from the area, described as most unfortunate.
He, however, expressed worry over the high rate of insecurity in Nasarawa Local Government Area as alarming, adding that, “I have not been home in the last two years due to the high level of insecurity.”
When contacted on the telephone, the chairman of Nasarawa area, Mr. Mohammed Otto and the Police Public Relations Officer, Nasarawa State Command, ASP Ramhman Nansel, couldn’t pick several calls to his mobile phones for comment as he could not reply back text message sent to their mobile phones.
